Shieldpurge 95/05 is a premium gas mixture used mainly as a backing gas in the purge welding of austenitic stainless steel and nickel alloys. It is also used as a leak testing gas to test various systems and equipment for leaks.

Shieldpurge 95/5 has the addition of hydrogen in nitrogen, which aids in a cleaning action. This assists in removing oxides more effectively than nitrogen on its own. Typically used in higher level purge welding applications such as pharmaceutical. The hydrogen addition also makes this gas useful as a tracer gas for hydrogen leak detection
