TAFE Apprentice of the Year

Coregas would like to congratulate Jason Brazulaitis on winning the Most Outstanding Achievement Award in Advanced Gas for the Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services course at TAFE NSW Illawarra Institute.

Marking the ninth year of Coregas’ sponsorship of the award, Trevor Longley (Regional Sales Manager NSW, Coregas) said, “Coregas is happy to be a part of the awards in some small way. We appreciate the hard work and commitment that TAFEs like the Illawarra Institute put into the future of the industry, fostering all the students that come through their doors.”

Based in Cooma, Jason put off completing his Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services due to the distance to his nearest TAFE, which was located in Canberra. When he learned that the TAFE NSW Illawarra Institute had launched a blended study model for the course, Jason enrolled.

The blended study course is delivered from a classroom in Wollongong, with students able to attend either in-person, or online via Microsoft Teams. The Illawarra Institute uses touchscreen smart boards, webcams and headsets to make students who are studying remotely feel like they are part of the class.

Jason came first out of a class of 60 students to win the Most Outstanding Achievement Award. According to teacher Jaime Bartolotta, “The decision was based on the quality of assignments submitted (Jason’s were second to none), his results in the final exam, and class participation. Jason was always willing to turn on his webcam and microphone and ask question or share his experiences.”

In recent years, the awards ceremony has been held in conjunction with World Plumbing Day and celebrated with a BBQ on campus. This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the celebrations were smaller, but just as festive.
